Gary Harwood | Life Behind the Lens

On View February 4th - May 21st, 2011

Special Live Appearance and Book Signing February 4th, 2011

Gary Harwood, Kent State University's lead photographer for more than a quarter century, will be sharing his award winning work with the Joseph Saxton Gallery for a very special retrospective view of his career in the field. With over 70 awards to his credit, including 2001's University Photographer of the Year, the 2007 Carter G. Woodson Honor Award for his title 'Growing Season', as well as placing in the 2010 Canton Luminaries Photography Competition, Gary's mastery over the documentary medium has been firmly evidenced. Further speaking to Gary's prowess in his field are the caliber of students he has produced as an instructor at KSU's School of Journalism, one of which being talented photo-journalist Tessa Bargainnier.

With photography from a wide array of personal and published work, this show will be unlike any other Harwood has ever produced. Powerful imagery from Ohio's migrant community, the indefatigable spirit of Cuba, classic photographs produced for the Associated Press, and Gary's visual essay on aging will all be represented in one remarkable collection of work.
